Job summary

Applied Intuition Defense is seeking a Perception Engineer to advance detection and classification across maritime, land, air-to-surface and other domains using EO/IR sensing. You will build and optimize perception models, deploy to edge hardware, and collaborate with a world-class AI team to push the limits of real-time performance.

The role emphasizes hands-on full-stack development, with amplio tooling for labeling, simulation, and large-scale data generation.

Qualifications

• MS or PhD in Computer Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or equivalent OR 5+ years of relevant experience with simulation, ML, and ML infrastructure.
• Proficiency in training ML models in PyTorch on multi-machine, multi-GPU systems.
• Experience deploying ML models to edge devices.
• Strong programming in Python and/or C++.
• Experience with AI-powered development tools to accelerate robust systems.
• Ability to learn new software with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Develop perception models with very low error rates (<1/100).
• Deploy models to Jetson Orin+ boards and optimize realtime performance.
• Build large foundation models for data labeling.
• Create tooling across the perception stack including labeling and simulation.
• Collaborate with top AI talent across teams for deployment and demos.
• Scale datasets using simulation, diffusion, and generative AI techniques.
• Optimize models and inference software for high FPS on Jetson-like hardware.
• Coordinate with hardware, sensor, tracking, autonomy and testing teams for on-site DoD demonstrations.
