Job summary

Small Door is a membership-based veterinary care provider delivering high-quality care in a pet-friendly setting. We are seeking a veterinary assistant to join our Boston team, supporting doctors and clients.

You have 2+ years of experience, are comfortable with computers, can lift 50 lbs, and are available weekends. You'll help with patient assessments, vitals, radiography prep, and in-house labs. This role offers competitive compensation and a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

• Recognize medical emergencies and assist doctors with diagnostics.
• Record vitals and assist with treatments.
• Assist in radiography capture and prepare samples for labs.
• Run in-house labs and prepare medications.
• Administer medications and monitor patient changes.
• Maintain a hospitable environment and support tele-triage as needed.

What you’ll do

• Knowledge and ability to recognize medical emergencies and illnesses
• Assessing patients
• Recording vitals and assisting doctors with diagnostics
• Completing treatments as instructed by the doctor
• Basic husbandry and nursing care
• Monitoring changes in patients and providing compassionate care
• Assisting in and facilitating radiography capture
• Preparing samples for outside reference labs
• Running in-house labs
• Preparing medications
• Administering medications
• Working tele-triage shifts (additional stipend)
• Additional responsibilities to maintain a hospitable environment

Who you are

• 2+ years of experience as a veterinary assistant
• Availability to work weekends (Saturday or Sunday)
• Comfortable with computers and online tools
• Strong enough to lift 50 lbs
