Job summary

Small Door is a membership-based veterinary care provider emphasizing human standards for pets, pet parents, and veterinarians. Our flagship Manhattan West Village location opened in 2019, with expansion along the East Coast and a promise of stress-free clinics designed by animal experts.

As a veterinary assistant, you will work in state-of-the-art facilities with strong doctor:nurse staffing ratios, a 24/7 telehealth team, and a dedicated call center to focus on patient care.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience as a veterinary assistant.
• Availability to work weekends (Saturday or Sunday).
• Comfortable with computers and online tools.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Recognize medical emergencies and illnesses.
• Assess patients.
• Record vitals and assist doctors with diagnostics.
• Complete treatments as instructed by the doctor.
• Provide basic husbandry and nursing care.
• Monitor changes in patients and provide compassionate care.
• Assist in radiography and prepare samples for labs.
• Run in-house labs and prepare medications.
• Administer medications.
• Work tele-triage shifts (additional stipend).
• Maintain a hospitable environment.

What you’ll do

• Knowledge and ability to recognize medical emergencies and illnesses
• Assessing patients

• Basic husbandry and nursing care
• Monitoring changes in patients and providing compassionate care
• Assisting in and facilitating radiography capture
• Preparing samples for outside reference labs
• Running in-house labs
• Preparing medications
• Administering medications
• Working tele-triage shifts (additional stipend)
• Additional responsibilities to maintain a hospitable environment

Who you are
