Job summary

Shields Health seeks a Surgical Technologist to prepare the operating room, sterilize equipment, and ensure all instruments function properly. The role requires maintaining a sterile field, anticipating the surgeon’s needs, and supporting efficient case start times throughout the day.

Responsibilities include instrument handling, counts, and assisting in maintaining a safe patient care environment within the OR. Per diem schedule offers flexible staffing with weekend and weekday shifts.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited surgical technician program is required.
• Certification (CST) required within 1 year of program completion.
• MA experience prior to July 2013 is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Select and check case carts and preference cards for correct instrument pans and supplies.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and request equipment before the procedure.
• Ensure instruments and equipment are in safe working order and sterile.
• Prepare the OR and assist with instrument handoffs during surgery.
• Maintain sterile technique and assist in decontamination and sterilization.
