Qualifications

• English and Spanish medical vocabulary required; third language helpful.

Responsibilities

• Medical interpreting between clinician and patient during face-to-face or telephone encounters.
• Acts as a liaison between patients and staff.
• Informs clinicians about cultural considerations when treating Spanish-speaking patients.
• Interpreter for ancillary departments.
• Interpreters between non-clinical staff and patients as needed.
• Provides support and coverage for the Interpreter Services Coordinator as needed.
• Edits translated materials.
• Identifies areas to better meet Spanish communities' needs.
• Explains interpreter model to clinicians and patients.
• Assists with training staff interpreters.
• Orients patients to hospital, tours and events as needed.
• May perform on-call services evenings/weekends/holidays.
• May assist with Community Health classes.
