Job summary

Metro Specialty Surgery Center in Jeffersonville, Indiana is seeking a Per Diem / PRN Scrub Technician to support our operating room team. The role emphasizes maintaining sterile fields, assisting the circulating nurse, and ensuring readiness of supplies and instruments for procedures.

The ideal candidate has a Scrub Technician program completion, a HS diploma, and at least two years of scrub experience across specialties, plus familiarity with medical terminology used in the OR.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED and completion of a Scrub Technician Program.
• Two years experience as a Scrub Tech in multiple specialties or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• General familiarity with medical terminology as it pertains to anatomy and surgical procedures for an operating room.

Responsibilities

• Ensure sterility of all supplies and instruments during setup.
• Assist circulating nurse and surgical team in maintaining sterile environment.
• Assist circulating nurse in gathering necessary surgical supplies and equipment.
• Perform sponge, needle, and instrument counts pre-operatively and intra-operatively with the circulating nurse.
• Gown and glove surgeons and assistants.
• Maintain physician preference cards accuracy/updated.
• Retain specimens to be sent to pathology with surgeon confirmation of source/name.
• Transport equipment to cleaning areas and assist in sterile reprocessing.
• Interact with patients and staff respectfully regardless of age or background.
• Follow universal precautions and safety practices to ensure a safe environment.
• Participate in environmental hazard and infection control surveillance and drills.
• Maintain certifications such as CPR and adhere to center policies.
• Attend inservices and meetings as required.
