Job summary

RSU 23 Old Orchard Beach Schools in Old Orchard Beach, ME, seeks a Substitute School Nurse or Nurse Assistant to support student health services under the supervision of the school nurse. Responsibilities include first aid, vital signs, diabetes management support, medication administration and documentation, immunization checks, data entry, and coordination with families.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and equivalent of 2 years of college.
• Experience working with adolescents and/or school age children
• Current and valid EMT, CNA, MA, or RN certification
• Experience with data entry and/or Excel and Microsoft office
• Ability to be flexible and change based on needs of school and/or district
• Experience working with families, youth and/or children from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural communities
• Ability to lift object weighing 20 pounds
• Possess strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrates personal characteristics of punctuality, dependability, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic first aid for sick or injured students and take temperatures.
• Assist with vital signs, diabetes self-management and immunization checks; data entry and documentation.
• Administer medications (including emergency medications) and document administration.
• Assist with vision and hearing screenings and support with district projects.
• Provide clerical assistance and communicate with parents and students as directed by RN.
