Job summary

Preferred Behavioral Health Group is seeking on-site Residential Counselors to support a group home setting in Ocean County, NJ. The role focuses on counseling, observation, and coordination with a multidisciplinary team to deliver trauma-informed care.

Ideal candidates have a health-related degree or LPN, with several years of related experience. The job offers on-site work, with differential pay for evenings and weekends, and requires CPR, Handle With Care and first aid certification.

Qualifications

• BA in health-related field or associate’s degree with 2+ years related experience.
• LPN with 2+ years related experience.
• High School Diploma with 4+ years related experience.
• Valid NJ driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

• Observe and assist 3-8 consumers in a residential setting with ongoing counseling for mental health services.
• On-site services and support;
• Communicating observations to the program specialist and team;
• Demonstrate proficiency in AMHR, WRAP and IMR;
• Supervise and support recreational and social activities;
• Transportation;
• Resident counseling;
• Crisis intervention with ability to call police, outreach and ambulance services;
• Participate in treatment planning, discharge planning, and modification plans;
• Coordinate medical, mental health and community services;
• Document observations and services in daily shift notes and progress notes;
• Maintain proficient written and verbal communication;
• Work effectively within a team;
• Maintain CPR, Handle With Care and first aid education/certification;
• Supervise medication self-administration and understand meds/side effects;
• Maintain communication with specialists regarding consumers’ behaviors.

Education

Location: Group Homes throughout Ocean County

Starting Rate $17.50 plus weekend and shift differentials

Weekend and Shift Differentials:

$3.00 Evening Shift Differential for Monday through Friday

$5.00 Weekend Shift Differential for Saturday and Sunday

Job Description/Summary

Observe and assist 3-8 consumers in a residential setting, with ongoing counseling for mental health services. All residential group home counselors are viewed as essential personnel in states of emergency and need to comply with work schedules accordingly.

• On-site services and support;
• Communicating observations and information about the consumer to the program specialist and team;
• Counselor will demonstrate proficiency in AMHR, WRAP and IMR;
• Supervising, organizing and supporting recreational and/or socialization activities;
• Transportation
• Resident counseling
• Crisis intervention services, with ability to call police, outreach and ambulance services
• Participation in the development of the brief visit process, treatment service plan, discharge plan, or any other behavioral modification plan;
• Participation in individual service, coordinating activities such as medical, mental, health and community services;
• Documenting observations, information and services provided to the consumer in daily shift notes, weekly progress notes, or any other emergent documentation needed;
• Proficient written and verbal communication
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment
• Must maintain required CPR, Handle With Care and first aid education/certification;
• Supervise medication self-administration by the consumer, and has a working knowledge of medications and side effects;
• On-going communication with specialist regarding consumers and exhibited behaviors;
