RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Per Diem Registered Nurse (RN) for Labor & Delivery at RWJ Somerset. The role is night shift with hourly pay range and per diem status in Somerville, NJ. You will conduct patient assessments, administer medications, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, evidence-based care.

Applicants must hold an active NJ RN license with BLS; ACLS is required. 1–2 years L&D experience and ADN are required; BSN preferred.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey RN license in good standing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• ACLS Certification required.
• 1–2 years Labor and Delivery experience.
• Associate's degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
• Experience with EMR systems (EPIC) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and recognize changes requiring intervention.
• Administer safe medications and provide hands‑on care.
• Collaborate with physicians and providers to coordinate care.
• Educate patients and families to support informed decision‑making.
• Document accurately in the EMR to ensure continuity of care.
• Participate in rounds and contribute to interdisciplinary care planning.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

Conducting comprehensive patient assessments and recognizing subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene early and advocate for your patients

Providing safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands-on care grounded in strong clinical judgment

Serving as a clinical partner to physicians and advanced providers, offering insight that supports timely, well-coordinated care decisions

Providing clear, compassionate education to patients and families so they feel informed, supported, and prepared for the next phase of care

Ensuring accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record to promote continuity and patient safety

To be considered for this RN opportunity, you must hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing and a current American Heart Association BLS certification. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification is required. At least 1-2 years of previous Labor and Delivery experience is required. An Associate's degree in Nursing is required. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is strongly preferred, as is prior patient care experience and comfort with electronic medical record systems (EMR) like EPIC. This position is Night shift, Per Diem
