Job summary

Kern Medical in Bakersfield, CA is seeking a Per Diem Physical Therapist Assistant to join the department on a part-time, on-site basis. The PTA works under a Registered Physical Therapist to deliver direct patient care and perform prescribed therapies.

Responsibilities include exercise programs, modalities, patient education, and accurate documentation. Eligible candidates must be academically trained, licensed in California, and able to meet shifting scheduling needs.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited PTA program.
• Current licensure to practice as a Physical Therapy Assistant in California.
• Must pass the PTA examination during probationary period.
• Maintain required health and certification standards (e.g., BLS/Responder).

Responsibilities

• Performs corrective exercise under the supervising Physical Therapist.
• Administers treatments such as gait training, massage, ultrasound, and safety procedures.
• Observes patients and communicates findings to the PT.
• Maintains proper documentation and records of services.
• Participates in professional development and quality monitoring.
• Maintains treatment areas and equipment in good order.
• Demonstrates skills across age ranges from infant to 100+ years.
• Assists in scheduling services and coordinating with other departments.
• Assists in tests/evaluations and documents patient progress.
• Explains orthopaedic recommendations and provides patient instructions.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
