Job summary

Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln, ME is seeking a per diem Phlebotomist to perform blood collection, label specimens, and support waived testing in a fast-paced lab setting.

The role requires high school diploma (or equivalent) with phlebotomy certification preferred and BLS certification. The position is non-exempt, hourly, and used to fill gaps in coverage, with duties including patient interaction and compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• National phlebotomy certification preferred but not required.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood collection procedures using a variety of techniques.
• Interact with patients.
• Process orders through information system and label specimens.
• Perform waived testing.
• Obtain Advance Beneficiary Notice if required.
• Positively identify patient.
• Collect blood specimens in appropriate tubes using technique appropriate to age and physical state of patient.
• Instruct / direct collection of urine specimens using technique appropriate to test ordered.
• Determine acceptability of specimens and rejects per policy.
• Process outgoing laboratory reports.
• File laboratory reports and requisitions.
• Operate CPSI system within scope of responsibility.
