Job summary

UMass Med School is seeking a Recovery Support Specialist on a per diem basis in Worcester, MA. The role focuses on peer recovery support services for patients with substance use disorders and enabling access to treatment and community resources.

Responsibilities include liaison work across systems, patient engagement, initial needs assessment, referrals, and ongoing advocacy to support sustained recovery.

Qualifications

• Current Certification as a Recovery Coach or Peer Specialist.
• Minimum of 3 years in sustained recovery.
• Reliable transportation and comprehensive insurance coverage.
• Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and leadership skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Advocacy skills and knowledge of community resources.
• Comfort with multiple pathways to recovery and patient-centered approach.
• Ability to handle confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Serve as liaison between the recovery community and care systems.
• Engage with patients identified with SUD referred by UMMS.
• Meet with patients prior to discharge and facilitate next steps.
• Collaborate with treatment team to implement evidence-based services.
• Help patients navigate healthcare and social services.
• Provide transportation to meetings and appointments.
• Educate patients about addiction and motivate treatment.
• Provide peer counseling and support recovery goals.
• Address barriers and advocate for patients.
• Conduct outreach to encourage recovery-group participation.
• Assist with access to treatment and determine level of care.
• Maintain patient records and contribute to data collection.
