Job summary

Northwell Health is seeking a licensed Occupational Therapist to evaluate and treat patients with disabilities, injuries, or diseases under the supervision of a state-licensed physician or practitioner. The role involves direct patient care, treatment planning, and collaboration with the care team.

Responsibilities include implementing therapy plans, documenting progress, coordinating DME, and educating patients and caregivers on daily living activities to maximize independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Therapy or equivalent.
• Current NYS OT license required.
• Current limited permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State for outpatient settings only (if applicable).
• 3.1–3 years of relevant experience, required.
• Specialized certifications, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Administers direct patient care in accordance with the prescribed plan.
• Develops and implements treatment plans to improve coordination, movement and function.
• Submits required documentation per department policies.
• Uses evaluation techniques to set goals and design treatment plans.
• Provides remediation to help patients achieve maximum daily functioning.
• Reviews and arranges for required DME and educates on use and follow-up care.
• Participates in quality improvement chart reviews and activities.
• Treats patients with acute or developmental disabilities using kinetic activities and perceptual training.
• Instructs patients and caregivers in activities of daily living to promote independence.
• Performs other duties as required; duties align with ADA definitions.

Evaluates and treats patients with disabilities, injuries and/or disease in accordance with the written and signed prescription and/or referral of a state licensed physician or other State authorized practitioner.

Job Responsibility

• 1.Administers direct patient care in accordance with the written and signed prescription of the referring physician or other State authorized practitioner.
• 2.Develops and implements treatment plans to improve gross and fine motor coordination, movement and function of upper extremities.
• 3.Submits required documentation in accordance with the policies and procedures of the department.
• 4.Utilizes thorough and appropriate evaluation techniques to establish realistic goals; designs and implements a treatment plan which best meets the needs of the patient and works toward achieving established goals.
• 5.Provides patient remediation in patient’s deficit areas to assist the patient to achieve maximum functioning in his/her daily life.
• 6.Reviews and arranges for required Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and instructs patient in use and protocols for dealing with malfunction of same; makes appropriate recommendations for follow-up care upon discharge.
• 7.Participates in quality improvement chart reviews and activities.
• 8.Treats patients with acute or developmental disabilities using methods including but not limited to: kinetic activities, perceptual training and developmental sequencing.
• 9.Instruct patient and significant caregivers in daily living skills including, but not limited to, tub transfers, dressing activities, feeding and household activities in order to promote a more independent and self-sufficient level of functioning.

Job Qualification

• 1.Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
• 2.Current License to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, required.
• OR
• Current limited permit to practice as an Occupational Therapist in New York State, required (applicable to outpatient settings only).
• Specialized certifications, as needed.
• 3.1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
