Job summary

UCI Health in Irvine is seeking a Blood Donor Center RN to support donor selection and the follow-through of identification and remediation of screening deficiencies. You will set up and perform apheresis and whole blood collection procedures, monitor donor reactions, and assist with donor education.

You will use the Nursing Process to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate donor care, and may serve as charge nurse across three site areas as needed.

Qualifications

• One year of RN experience doing apheresis or acute hemodialysis procedures.
• Current California RN license.
• Competent in venipuncture.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required for external candidates.
• Ability to work flexible hours and flexible locations including evenings, nights, weekends & holidays.
• Strong customer service orientation.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment.
• Ability to communicate in person, with a wide range of people in an effective professional manner.

Your Role on the Team

Position Summary

The Blood Donor Center currently has three locations: Campus Blood Donor Center, Medical Center Blood Donor Center, and Mobile Collection sites. The incumbent will be assigned to a primary area but will be expected to work in all three areas as needed and is responsible for the accurate donor selection and follow through of identification and remediation of deficiencies in screening procedures. What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications

• Strong customer service orientation
• One year of RN experience doing apheresis patient/donor collections / procedures or acute hemodialysis procedures
• Demonstrated knowledge and practice of infection control techniques
• Current California RN license
• Competent in venipuncture or venipuncture certification
• All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Ability to work flexible hours and flexible locations including evenings, nights, weekends & holidays.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
• Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment
• Ability to communicate in person, with a wide range of people in an effective professional manner

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of FDA, DHS, AABB, CAP, Title 22, Joint Commission, and CDC guidelines
