Job summary

University of California - Los Angeles Health seeks a Medical Scribe to assist physicians with documenting patient history, exams, and follow-up in electronic or paper records. The role supports charts, labs, and consultations while ensuring accurate spelling, grammar, and completeness.

The Scribe will travel to department clinics as needed and may train new Physician Support Assistants, with a flexible schedule including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Two years minimum of scribe or physician-support experience.
• Experience training new Physician Support Assistants.
• Experience with EMR systems (Medhost, EPIC, Cerner, etc.).
• Knowledge of E&M codes and appropriate documentation levels.
• Detail-oriented with medical terminology and anatomy knowledge.
• Strong proofreading and grammar skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings/nights/weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist physicians with documenting patient history, exams, and follow-up in EMR or paper records.
• Review and ensure completeness and correctness of physician notes and lab results.
• Expedite consults and manage documentation workflow.
• Provide feedback on data-entry errors and ensure accurate spelling and grammar.
• Help keep physicians moving in the clinic and assist with forms for return-to-work/school.
• Assist in abstracting, scanning, and cataloging records into electronic systems.
• Travel to department clinics as assigned for coverage.
