Job summary

West Haven Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation is seeking a dependable Per Diem Cook to join our Dietary Services team. This role requires a current ServSafe certification and a willingness to follow menus, recipes, diet orders, and stringent food safety standards.

Responsibilities include preparing meals per posted menus, setting up trays, coordinating portions and dietary substitutions, and maintaining steam tables and sanitation practices.

Qualifications

• Current ServSafe certification is required.
• Prior cooking or healthcare food service experience is preferred.
• Ability to follow menus, recipes, diet orders, and food safety requirements.
• Dependable, organized, and able to work effectively as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to posted menus, recipes, resident preferences, and prescribed diet orders.
• Set up meal trays accurately and ensure food is served at the proper temperature.
• Prepare appropriate portions, meal substitutions, and special diet items.
• Set up and maintain the steam table for meal service.
• Follow proper food handling, sanitation, storage, thawing, and infection‑control practices.
• Maintain a clean and organized kitchen, including food preparation areas, equipment, utensils, refrigerators, floors, and storage areas.
• Properly store unused food and maintain organization of food and ingredient storage areas.
• Assist with menu changes and other dietary department responsibilities as needed.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Food Service Director or Food Service Supervisor.
