Job summary

Labcorp is seeking a Clinical Lab Professional to join our team at UAB St. Vincent’s in Birmingham, AL. This per diem / as-needed position supports a production-based clinical laboratory workflow and delivers timely, accurate test results for patient care.

Responsibilities include specimen assessment, routine and complex testing, instrument troubleshooting, QC, and reagent evaluation. Requires a science degree and MLS eligibility or MLS, with certification preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
• 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree.
• ASCP or AMT certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
• Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental SOPs.
• Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
• Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
• Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
• Maintain a safe work environment and wear PPE.
