Job summary

Job description

The Pep Band Director is responsible for leading Everett Community College’s Pep Band. This position recruits and develops students who demonstrate academic achievement, school pride, and musical talents. The Pep Band Director promotes a strong team culture, maintains high standards of conduct, and supports the College in providing students with a quality educational and Pep Band experience.

TITLE: Pep Band Associate Faculty

SALARY: $20,485/quarter at 100% course load*

WORKLOAD: Varies by quarterly assignment

SCHEDULE: Varies by quarterly assignment

UNION: AFT

DIVISION: Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success

REPORTS TO: Director of Athletics

POSITION NUMBER: 00022000

This position may be eligible for hybrid work, per Everett Community College’s Telework Policy

*Assignments vary in credits/load. For example, one 5 credit lecture course would be 33.33% course load. Additional compensation may be available for courses that meet high wage / high demand criteria. Please review Appendix D of the AFT Contract for salary information.

Teaching
  • Foster an equitable, anti-racist, and culturally inclusive learning environment and demonstrate an awareness of the experiences and needs of the current student population.
  • Develop curriculum, prepare, modify and deliver teaching/learning activities designed to maximize student learning and foster inclusive excellence.
  • Teach courses in accordance with the course record, course syllabus, approved student learning objectives, and quarterly course schedules. Design and/or deliver course assignments, learning activities and assessments that enable students to meet the course’s stated learning outcomes.
  • Develop a current course syllabus using the College’s inclusive syllabus template and submit it to the Instruction Office prior to the start of the quarter.
  • At the course level, assess student work using appropriate methodologies that promote further learning; at the department or program level; at the program or department level, disaggregate, review and assess student learning outcomes with the goal of continuous improvement and reduction of opportunity gaps.
  • Complete summative evaluations of student work during the College’s scheduled finals week; submit final grades by the designated deadline.
  • Create and maintain department and student records in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Refer students to college services, community agencies and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Establish, post, and maintain regularly scheduled office hours for consultation with students.
Participation in College Matters
  • Complete annual trainings as required by state and federal law. Associate Faculty will be compensated for trainings required by the College independent of compensation received for their quarterly workload assignment.
  • Read and respond to College communications (phone, email, etc.) in a timely manner.
Continuation of Professional Standards
  • Stay current in relevant best practices, emerging topics, and research.
  • Maintain certification and/or licensure required by the College in the performance of the faculty member’s assignment.
Optional Duties
  • By mutual agreement, compensation may be available for participation in the following:
    • Opening week activities, meetings and professional development opportunities.
    • Faculty forums.
    • Annual commencement ceremony in June.
    • Service on committees.
    • Department, division and College meetings and be involved in department, division and college matters.
Reassigned Time
  • The leadership of the College has the right to assign faculty duties to faculty members.
  • Faculty may be assigned non-faculty duties including, but not limited to, administrative functions, leadership of college initiatives, or other specially assigned duties.
Required Education and Experience
  • Two years of experience teaching and leading a pep band at the high school, club, or collegiate level, or equivalent experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of game-day rules (e.g., regulations regarding artificial noisemakers, band positioning, and playing during live action).
  • Understanding of conducting principles, ensemble balance, musical development, and band operations.
  • Ability to recruit, mentor, and support student musicians with diverse skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Strong communication skills in both individual and group settings.
  • Proficiency with technology used for communication, music distribution, and scheduling.
Preferred
  • Experience directing a pep band at the college level.
  • Experience teaching, conducting, or mentoring in an educational or athletic pep band setting.
  • Education and/or certifications related to Music Education, Conducting, or student development.

  • FLSA overtime exempt
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the AFT Collective Bargaining Agreement.
