Job summary

Heirloom Carbon is seeking a senior HR leader to scale people operations across the full employee lifecycle. You will own HRIS administration, payroll coordination, and benefits, ensure compliance, and lead onboarding, performance cycles, and culture initiatives.

You will partner on compensation, advise managers, and craft company-wide communications. A strategic, hands-on approach is essential in this early-stage environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive HR experience with emphasis on HRIS, payroll and benefits administration.
• Track record of building HR processes and systems from scratch.
• Sound judgment and discretion handling sensitive employee matters.
• Strong written and verbal communication for company-wide messaging.
• Comfort operating with ambiguity and wearing multiple hats.
• Bias toward action and delivering fixes to completion.
• Familiarity with modern HR tools and comfort with AI/automation.

Responsibilities

• Own HR systems and processes — HRIS, payroll coordination, and benefits administration.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state employment laws, maintain policies and postings.
• Own onboarding/offboarding and support performance cycles.
• Partner on compensation and provide light recruiting support as needed.
• Serve as first point of contact for employee questions and investigations.
• Design and run engagement and culture initiatives; coach managers.
• Own company-wide communications and sensitive topic messaging.
• Define people ops metrics and report to leadership.
• Manage vendor contracts and ad hoc operational projects.
