Job description

Convergent Research is a non-profit science studio best known for pioneering the Focused Research Organization (FRO). We identify scientific bottlenecks and architect pivotal infrastructure to eliminate them—unlocking entirely new areas of research that academic labs can’t build and industry won’t.

FROs are a new operating model for science that ensures rapid iteration cycles and high-throughput learning. Convergent provides the operational backbone to help scientific teams move fast and stay focused. We’re growing fast and scaling systems to support a network of bold scientific leaders.

This role helps build the foundation for that future.

About the Role

This role will partner with our People Operations team and offers a rare opportunity to work on high-leverage systems while also getting your hands dirty with the kinds of unsexy-but-essential details that keep an organization running smoothly.

You’ll be embedded in the backend of how an organization scales: building better workflows, dashboards, and tools while also tightening up internal knowledge systems. You’ll partner closely with the Head of People and have the chance to interface with great people across our operations, programming, events, and other teams. This is a chance to leave your fingerprints on the structure of a fast-moving, mission-driven organization.

You Are
  • Tech-savvy. You love all things AI. You’re comfortable using (or learning) tools like Notion, Slack, Lever, and Google Workspace, and you’re excited to tinker with GPTs or build internal guides using AI.
  • Organized and systems-oriented. You get satisfaction from labeling things properly, building workflows that work, and creating clarity from chaos.
  • Detail-focused. You catch what others miss and take pride in doing things right the first time.
  • Self-directed. You’re comfortable working largely independently and managing your time (with a support network and safety net!), especially in a remote environment.
  • Comfortable with spreadsheets and docs. You’re not scared of conditional formatting or pivot tables, even if you don’t live for them.
  • Curious about org design. You want to understand how hiring, compensation, feedback, and performance systems shape a team’s success.
You Will
  • Tidy up our HR Drive. Reorganize and re-label key folders to improve navigation and enforce naming conventions across documents.
  • Map benefits across our ecosystem. Build a master spreadsheet of benefits across Convergent and all FROs for easier comparison and equity tracking.
  • Create useful dashboards and data spreadsheets. Generate reports on hiring trends, turnover, and other people data.
  • Research tools and vendors. Look into background check providers, LinkedIn Recruiter setups, and best practices for managing employee data.
  • Co-develop GPTs. Help refine internal GPTs for use in recruiting, onboarding, and performance—writing prompts, directions, and internal documentation.
  • Help systematize our people knowledge. Build templates, create manager playbooks, Notion pages, and doc libraries that scale with us.
  • Support ad hoc projects across the organization.
Details
  • Timing: Flexible: estimated 10–15 hours/week, for 10–12 weeks, with option to extend
  • Status: 1099 Contractor
  • Start Date: Flexible
  • Location: Remote (U.S. Based)
  • Manager: Head of People
