Job summary

Schemata is building a people and operations function from the ground up in a small, fast‑moving team in the DC metro area. You’ll own payroll, onboarding, benefits, and policy administration while supporting recruiting, executive needs, and daily operations.

As the first dedicated People Operations Coordinator, you’ll implement scalable processes, handle sensitive information with discretion, and help keep the ship running smoothly as we grow to a larger, regulated defense tech team.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in people operations, HR, or office support.
• Baseline HR fundamentals: payroll, benefits, onboarding, compliance.
• Exceptionally detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; high discretion.

Responsibilities

• Run day‑to‑day HR administration: onboarding/offboarding, records, PTO, benefits enrollment.
• Administer payroll/benefits through Rippling and Human Interest 401(k); answer employee questions.
• Maintain HR policies, handbook, and multi‑state compliance.
• Coordinate performance reviews, surveys, and people programs as we scale.
• Support executive team with calendar, travel, expenses, and meetings.
• Plan team events across DC and SF offices and manage facilities coordination.
