Job summary

The Cleveland Institute of Music’s Office of People & Culture leads employment programming and supports an inclusive, engaging work environment. The Human Resources Generalist handles recruiting, faculty hiring support, benefits administration, leaves, ADA accommodations, and policy enforcement.

They maintain HRIS data, generate reports, oversee annual open enrollment, and handle disciplinary matters in collaboration with leadership and legal counsel.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resources or equivalent work experience required.
• A minimum of 5 years of Human Resources Generalist experience; higher education is preferred.
• SHRM-CP or HRCI certification preferred.
• Experience with benefits administration, employee and labor relations, training and development, performance management, and recruiting and hiring required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews, tracks and documents compliance with training such as Title IX, anti-harassment, safety, or department-specific trainings.
• Manages full-cycle hiring: posts, recruits, interviews, and coordinates with managers.
• Processes and maintains documentation for employee status changes, promotions, transfers, and separations.
• Supports faculty hiring by posting positions, coordinating interviews, and sending contracts.
• Conducts background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
• Maintains HRIS data and prepares HR reports and workforce data.
• Maintains job descriptions and reviews them annually with managers.
• Conducts new hire orientation, recognition, and wellness programs.
• Administers benefits, leave programs, employee relations, and performance management.
• Coordinates benefits open enrollment and leaves of absence, including ADA processes.
• Responds to employment inquiries and guides staff within policy.
• Supports labor relations with bargaining unit agreements and related matters.
