Job summary

Qualifications

• Valid PA Class A or B CDL with Air Brake and Manual restrictions removed.
• CDL training or equivalent experience required.
• Must meet medical certification requirements per FMCSA.
• Active PennDOT certification for heavy trucks/loaders and two additional equipments within probation.
• Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) required during probation.
• Endorsements/certifications required for specific equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operate trucks, loaders and other equipment for roadway and bridge maintenance.
• Maintain CDL and complete checks and certifications for safe equipment use.
• Perform flagging duties to guide traffic and maintain site safety.
• Use tools to clear brush, clean culverts and repair barriers.
• Carry out field adjustments, minor repairs and regular cleaning of equipment.

In this position, you will play an important role in keeping state roads safe and in good condition through skilled equipment operation and manual work. You will support the daily needs of the maintenance crew and help ensure safe travel for the public. As a PennDOT CDL Operator A, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Operation:Operate trucks, loaders, and other equipment to support roadway and bridge maintenance
• CDL Compliance:Maintain your CDL and complete required checks and certifications for safe equipment use
• Traffic Control:Perform flagging duties to guide traffic and maintain safety on active work sites
• Manual Tasks:Use motorized and hand tools to complete tasks such as clearing brush, cleaning culverts, and repairing barriers
• Equipment Care:Carry out field adjustments, minor repairs, and regular cleaning to keep equipment in good working order

Work Schedule and Additional Information

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. Work hours subject to seasonal change.
• Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

• Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual (E) Restriction removed.
• This position requires the ability to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
• This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
• All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
• This position requires an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period
• Employee may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment

Additional Requirements

• This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
• You must be able to perform essential job functions.
