Job summary

Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s PennDOT is seeking a CDL Operator in Potter County to operate trucks and construction equipment, perform manual labor, and support highway and bridge maintenance. This is a full-time, outdoor, field-based role with daytime hours and seasonal adjustments.

The position requires an active Pennsylvania Class A or B CDL with Air Brake and Manual Transmission restrictions removed, a Medical Examiner's Certificate, and DOT certifications within the probationary period.

Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania CDL Class A or B license with Air Brake and Manual Transmission restrictions removed.
• Demonstrated ability to operate equipment with a manual transmission.
• Medical Examiner's Certificate required under FMCSA regulations.
• DOT certifications for heavy trucks, loaders, and two additional pieces of equipment within probation.
• Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) required during probation and maintained thereafter.

This position involves operating trucks and equipment, performing manual labor, maintaining tools, and supporting safe highway and bridge maintenance activities. It requires careful equipment use, attention to safety, and completion of a wide range of outdoor tasks. As a PennDOT CDL Operator, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Operation: Operate trucks, loaders, and other construction and maintenance equipment as assigned
• Tool Use: Perform manual labor using hand tools and motorized tools to support maintenance and repair tasks
• Maintenance Work: Complete minor repairs, make field adjustments, and clean equipment to ensure safe operation
• Safety Practices: Follow proper safety procedures, identify hazards, and report incidents or unsafe conditions
• Worksite Support: Assist mechanics, install tire chains, erect signs, cut brush, and complete other outdoor tasks

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Work hours are subject to change based on season/weather
• Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,888 (before taxes).

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake (L) and Manual Transmission (E ) Restrictions removed.
• This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
• All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
• All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
• All employees must obtain an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
• This position requires additional certifications issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation on assigned pieces of equipment.
