Job summary

Stars Behavioral Health Group is seeking a Peer Support Specialist for the San Bernardino: Casa Paseo Crisis Residential Treatment program. The role focuses on outreach, engagement and direct support to clients in crisis, leveraging lived experience to promote recovery.

Salary range is 18.00–22.00 USD per hour. The position requires a CA Peer Support Specialist certification and 18+ years old, with 2:00 PM–10:30 PM shift in San Bernardino, CA.

Qualifications

• Active California Peer Support Specialist Certification.
• Personal lived experience as a consumer within child welfare, probation, or mental health systems.
• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, etc.).
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Meet agency driver eligibility criteria

• Serve as role models, companions, educators and advocates to clients.
• Help clients move toward recovery and create a meaningful role in their life.

What You Bring to SBHG (Qualifications)

• Certification: Active California Peer Support Specialist Certification.
• Lived Experience: Personal, lived experience as a consumer within the child welfare, probation, or mental health systems.
• Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSET, etc.).
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Meet agency driver eligibility criteria

Experience & Skills

• One (1) year of full-time experience performing non-professional, consumer-directed services.
• Experience working within a mental health, healthcare, or social services agency serving individuals with disabilities is preferred.

Compliance & Safety

• Valid California Driver's License with an eligible driving record per company policy.
• First Aid certification from persons qualified by agencies including but not limited to the American Red Cross.

How You Will Make a Difference

The position has primary responsibility for using their lived experience and knowledge of the system to provide outreach and engagement, support, advocacy, and direct services to program clients of all age ranges. Peer Support Specialists are people who have lived experience in the mental health, judicial, and/or social service systems in some capacity. They serve as role models, companions, educators and advocates to our clients. The Peer Support Specialist will support clients in moving toward recovery, creating a meaningful role in their life, which is separate from their illness.

Division/Program Overview

Program: The Crisis Residential Treatment (CRT) is a short-term voluntary residential facility.

Population Served: Designed to help adult residents, ages 18-59, who experience a psychiatric crisis to safely stabilize, recover, and transition back to community.

Facility & Setting: Short-term voluntary residential facility, 24/7 Program

Clinical Services: Therapeutic and mental health services, Medication evaluation and support services, Crisis intervention

Length of Stay: Short-term

Skills & Transition: Pre-vocational or vocational counseling, transition back to community

Skills & Services: Rehabilitation/recovery services, including substance use rehabilitation services, Daily exercise and health/wellness education
