Job summary

Coleman Health Services in Stark County, Ohio invites applicants to join as a full-time Peer Support Specialist. Candidates with lived experience of mental illness or substance use and in recovery help others on similar journeys, using coping skills and advocacy to support treatment planning and daily progress.

The role includes maintaining a safe home environment, following shift schedules, and collaborating with clinical staff to report changes and support residents in building independence.

Qualifications

• Lived experience with mental illness or substance use
• Completed state peer support training or willingness to complete such training
• Able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to work with persons who are experiencing mental health concerns and crisis

Responsibilities

• Observe behaviors for input on treatment planning and report significant changes to clinical staff
• Maintain clean environment in the home and follow the shift responsibilities and cleaning schedule assignments
• Act as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and the use of coping skills, serving as an advocate
• Perform a wide range of tasks to help peers regain independence within the community and ownership over their own recovery process by using a variety of techniques

Peer Support Specialist Job Duties:

• Observe behaviors for input on treatment planning and report significant changes to clinical staff. Encourage residents to meet specified goals and objectives. Chart client progress daily through residential progress notes.
• Maintain clean environment in the home and follow the shift responsibilities and cleaning schedule assignments.
• Act as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and the use of coping skills, serving as an advocate, and providing information about peer support in outpatient and settings.
• Perform a wide range of tasks to help peers regain independence within the community and ownership over their own recovery process by using a variety of techniques.

Peer Support Requirements:

• High school diploma
• Completed state peer support training or willingness to complete such training
• Lived experience in mental illness or substance use
• Able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to work with persons who are experiencing mental health concerns and crisis
