Job summary

Coleman Health Services is seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist in Stark County, Ohio. The role focuses on leveraging lived recovery experience to support others through their recovery journey.

You will work within our care team to promote hope, model coping skills, and help residents engage in treatment planning. Qualified applicants have a high school diploma, are willing to complete peer support training, and can handle work-related stress.

Qualifications

• Lived experience with mental illness or substance use and readiness to help others.
• Completed state peer support training or willingness to complete such training.
• Able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to work with persons who are experiencing mental health concerns and crisis.

Responsibilities

• Observe behaviors for input on treatment planning and report significant changes to clinical staff. Encourage residents to meet specified goals and objectives. Chart client progress daily through residential progress notes.
• Maintain clean environment in the home and follow the shift responsibilities and cleaning schedule assignments.
• Act as a role model to peers, exhibiting competency in personal recovery and the use of coping skills, serving as an advocate, and providing information about peer support in outpatient and settings.
• Perform a wide range of tasks to help peers regain independence within the community and ownership over their own recovery process by using a variety of techniques.
