Job summary

Horizon Health and Wellness, Inc. in Apache Junction, AZ is seeking a Peer Recovery Support Specialist to provide compassionate, recovery-focused support, coaching and education during the recovery process.

This safety-sensitive role emphasizes Kindness Matters in all interactions with patients and staff. You will document services, support an assigned caseload and help create a positive experience for individuals served, leveraging your lived experience in recovery.

Qualifications

  • Recovery Peer Support Specialist Certificate (or ability to obtain it within 3 months of hire).
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Self-identify as an individual with lived experience of mental health conditions or substance use, who has sought support and has an experience of sustained recovery (greater than one year).
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and reliable transportation.
  • Certification in first aid, CPR, and Crisis De-Escalation training (e.g., CPI); if you do not possess active certification training will be provided.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Have availability of a home telephone for easy access of Agency contact.
  • Ability to type and a working knowledge/familiarity with computers and electronic clinical record keeping.
  • Must obtain and maintain a fingerprint clearance card and pass a background check.

Responsibilities

The Peer Recovery Support Specialist’s main purpose is to provide kind, empathetic support, coaching, mentoring, and education for individuals during their recovery process. This position is a safety-sensitive role with tasks that could affect the safety, health or reputation of the Agency, participants, the employee performing the task or others. The Specialist is responsible for:

Qualifications – Mental and Emotional
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Negotiate beneficial interaction and develop rapport with mentally ill participants and their families, professional and support staff, and various levels of staff from community agencies.
  • Maintain a calm, non-defensive, supportive attitude during crisis or potential crisis situations.
Qualifications – Physical
  • Long periods of sitting, ability to bend, lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Operate phone, fax, copier, and a computer.
  • Must be fully ambulatory and able to assist participants.
  • Must be able to operate an Agency vehicle.
Qualifications – Preferred
  • Bilingual – English/Spanish.
  • Experience working in Integrated Healthcare, Behavioral Health or Residential settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity.
