Job summary

Primary Health Care (PHC) is seeking a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist to provide one-on-one peer support, helping clients assess recovery needs, set goals, and build networks across PHC locations in Ames and Marshalltown. The role emphasizes collaboration with treatment teams and documentation of progress.

The position requires lived experience with substance use or mental health recovery and a high school diploma.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or equivalent.
• Lived experience in substance use disorder, mental illness, or homelessness.
• Understands trauma-informed and culturally competent care principles.
• Knowledge of local community and housing resources.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Team oriented and able to work with diverse groups.
• Proficiency with computers including MS Office and EHR systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one peer support to assess needs, set recovery goals, establish support networks, and develop relapse prevention plans.
• Assist peers in coordinating with treatment teams and case managers to arrange appointments and referrals.
• Maintain continuity of communication between peers, care providers, and social supports.
• Maintain accurate and complete peer support documentation.
• Advocate for peers and reinforce the value of each recovery experience.
• Participate in community events and performance improvement activities.
