Responsibilities

P2P offers structured support and guidance to help participants pursue education, meaningful employment, and long-term personal growth. Role Description

The Peer Recovery Specialist is a full-time, in person role based in Baltimore, MD, with flexibility for some work-from-home activities. In this position, the specialist will provide peer-based support to individuals impacted by the criminal legal system and addiction, helping them navigate recovery, community reentry, and personal development. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting one-on-one and group support sessions, assisting participants in accessing treatment and social services, and guiding individuals through insurance and resource coordination. The specialist will collaborate with program staff to develop and deliver trainings, document participant progress, and maintain accurate records in accordance with organizational policies. This role also involves outreach, advocacy, and participation in community events to strengthen partnerships and promote P2P’s mission.

Qualifications
  • Candidates should possess strong Interpersonal Skills to build trust, foster peer relationships, and support diverse participants with respect and empathy.
  • Candidates should possess effective Communication skills, including active listening, clear verbal and written communication, and the ability to convey complex information in accessible ways.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge of Addiction Recovery principles, peer support models, and recovery-oriented resources, ideally with lived experience or prior work in recovery settings.
  • Candidates should possess familiarity with Insurance processes and resource navigation, including helping participants access treatment coverage, benefits, and community services.
  • Candidates should possess Training skills, including the ability to facilitate workshops, co-develop educational materials, and provide guidance to peers and stakeholders.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include experience working with justice-impacted communities, understanding of trauma-informed care, and basic case management skills.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or certification in peer recovery, social work, counseling, or related fields is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment in Baltimore, MD, maintain confidentiality, and comply with organizational and legal standards.
