INSTITUTES FOR BEHAVIOR RESOURCES INC (IBR) seeks a qualified Peer Recovery Specialist to support individuals navigating recovery and accessing services. This on-site, full-time role emphasizes empathy, lived experience, and trauma-informed care.

You will mentor, connect clients with housing and healthcare resources, assist with case management, accompany patients to appointments, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to promote recovery goals and engagement in treatment.

Qualifications

  • Active Maryland Peer Recovery Specialist certification within 1 year of employment.
  • Knowledge of local support systems and resources.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under moderate supervision and in teams.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer-based mentoring, encouragement, and recovery support to individuals engaged in treatment.
  • Conduct outreach and re-engagement efforts to help individuals return to care.
  • Connect patients with housing, social services, healthcare, and crisis resources.
  • Assist with case management, referrals, and care coordination.
  • Accompany patients to medical, social service, and other community appointments as needed.
  • Support HIV/HCV prevention, education, and outreach in clinic and community.
  • Advocate for patients to achieve recovery goals and stability.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and confidentiality, and comply with regulations.

Job description

REACH Health Services, of the Institutes for Behavior Resources, Inc. (IBR), is seeking a PEER RECOVERY SPECIALIST. We believe that recovery is strengthened through connection, hope, and the support of those with lived experience.

We are looking for an empathetic, dedicated professional who is passionate about helping individuals navigate their recovery journey and overcome barriers to wellness. As a Peer Recovery Specialist, you will use your lived experience and recovery expertise to provide encouragement, advocacy, mentorship, and practical support to individuals receiving substance use treatment services.

As Peer Recovery Specialist, you will:
  • Provide peer-based mentoring, encouragement, and recovery support to individuals engaged in treatment.
  • Conduct outreach and re-engagement efforts to help individuals return to care and remain connected to services.
  • Connect patients with community resources, including housing, social services, healthcare, and crisis support.
  • Assist with case management, referrals, and care coordination to address barriers to recovery and improve treatment engagement.
  • Accompany patients to medical, social service, and other community-based appointments as needed.
  • Support HIV/HCV prevention, education, and outreach efforts both in the clinic and community.
  • Advocate for patients and empower them to achieve personal recovery goals and greater stability.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary treatment teams to ensure comprehensive, person-centered care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and support the mission, values, and policies of IBR/REACH Health Services.
Work Schedule

This is a 32 hour/week, full-time, non-exempt position working on-site, Monday through Thursday from 7am to 3pm.

Pay & Benefits:

In compliance with Maryland's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, IBR is committed to providing transparent wage information for all posted job opportunities. This pay rate for this position is $19-23/hour. Compensation is determined based on factors such as licensure, education, experience, and internal equity.

Requirements
Required Education/Experience:
  • Active certification as a Peer Recovery Specialist from the State of Maryland required within one year of employment, and must be maintained.
Other Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Broad knowledge of support systems and community resources and how to access services in the community.
  • Excellent and accurate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out duties with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and ethical therapeutic relationships with individuals and groups.
  • Proficient knowledge of computer systems including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and ability to learn new programs, as needed.
  • Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, while managing multiple high priority issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to pass all pre-employments requirements including but not limited to a criminal background check and drug screen, and verification of COVID-19 vaccination.
