Description

COMHAR is seeking a Peer Support Recovery Coach for its HOPE PROGRAM. The coach will facilitate individual recovery by providing support and education about community services. They will act as a role model, inspiring hope and sharing personal experiences as a person in recovery.

The HOPE (Helping Opportunities for People’s Empowerment) program is a community-based psychiatric rehabilitation initiative, part of COMHAR’s CIRC (Community Integrated Recovery Center) model for adults and seniors.

This is a Fee for Service position. A 12-hour orientation on psych rehab, along with other trainings, must be completed within the first year of hire.

Essential Duties

• Engage at-risk individuals, providing recovery education and supports, e.g., motivational interviewing
• Assist with orientation, facilitate groups, and co-facilitate meetings for newcomers to mental health services
• Educate and involve individuals in the Wellness Recovery Action Plan process
• Develop and implement educational/support groups and activities like warm lines and event calendars
• Connect individuals with community resources and peer supports outside the facility to promote integration
• Support individuals in reconnecting with family, friends, and improving relationships
• Promote community awareness of mental health and co-occurring disorders, reducing stigma
• Train and orient new staff to foster a recovery-supportive, peer culture
• Participate in meetings, task forces, and advisory boards as required

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• At least 12 months of paid or volunteer experience in mental health direct service within the last three years, or 24 college credits in related fields
• One year of paid or volunteer mental health experience
• Availability to work evenings and weekends
• Completion of an approved Peer Specialist certification program
