Job summary

Fairmont State University is piloting a Flight School Peer Mentorship Program. Peer mentors will support new students, attend training, and lead five mentorship sessions during the academic year. A stipend of $240 is paid for participation.

Successful applicants must be current Fairmont State students in good academic standing and will report to Marion Holmes in the Student Engagement department. The position is on campus for the academic year.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Experience in group leadership and facilitation.
• Experience in a leadership or mentorship role.
• Experience as a First Flight leader or similar role at Fairmont State.

Responsibilities

• Attend 2 hour training (date TBD).
• Lead 5 mentorship meetings throughout the academic year with 4–6 mentees each.
• Follow meeting outlines and prepare in advance; track mentee attendance.
• Conduct periodic check-ins (phone, text, email) with mentees.
• Provide feedback to Student Directors.

Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities

Fairmont State is piloting a “Flight School” peer mentorshipprogram which aims to provide support and guidance to students newto the university. Peer mentors will work serve as a resource tostudents. Peer Mentors are expected to attend training and lead 5peer mentorship sessions throughout the academic year. Peer Mentorswill be paid a stipend of $240 for their participation in theprogram.

Peer Mentor duties include:

• Attending 2 hour training (date TBD, September)
• Leading 5 mentorship meetings throughout the academic year; eachmeeting will include 4-6 student mentees
• Peer mentors are expected to follow meeting outlines, as providedby Student Directors, prepare for meetings in advance and trackmentee attendance.
• Conducting periodic checks ins (phone, text, email) withmentees
• Providing feedback to Student Directors

Must be a current Fairmont State student in good academic anddisciplinary standing.
