Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to SUCCESS students on academic processes, campus services, and navigating college systems.
  • Offer peer-to-peer support to promote confidence and student success.
  • Build relationships with students to foster belonging and community within the SUCCESS Program.
  • Host regular drop-in hours to assist students with questions and general support needs.
  • Assist staff during peak advising periods by welcoming students and triaging questions in the waiting area.
  • Provide basic administrative assistance with student tasks such as registration adjustments and reviewing degree audit tools.
  • Support front desk operations, including helping students check in and schedule appointments.
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and facilitating SUCCESS Program events and workshops.
  • Support engagement efforts through platforms such as Blackboard or other student communication tools.

General Statement

The SUCCESS Program Peer Advisor (SPA) plays an important role in supporting student success at Quinsigamond Community College by providing peer-to-peer guidance, encouragement, and resource navigation. SPAs serve as approachable, knowledgeable student leaders who assist both new and continuing SUCCESS students in navigating academics, campus resources, and the transition to college life.

Reports to SUCCESS Advisor and/or Coordinator

Duties and Responsibilities
Peer Support & Student Engagement
  • Provide guidance to SUCCESS students on academic processes, campus services, and navigating college systems
  • Offer peer‑to‑peer support that promotes confidence, help‑seeking behavior, and student success
  • Build relationships with students to foster a sense of belonging and community within the SUCCESS Program
  • Host regular drop‑in hours to assist students with questions and general support needs
Advising Center Support
  • Assist staff during peak advising periods by welcoming students and helping triage questions in the waiting area
  • Provide basic administrative assistance with student tasks such as making registration adjustments, reviewing degree audit tools, general navigation of college processes and platforms
  • Support front desk operations, including helping students check in and schedule appointments
Programming & Outreach
  • Assist with planning, promoting, and facilitating SUCCESS Program events and workshops
  • Support engagement efforts through platforms such as Blackboard or other student communication tools
  • Participate in new student events such as advising check‑out tables and onboarding activities
  • Collaborate with advising staff to support workshops on relevant student topics
Administrative & Team Contributions
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards
  • Participate in scheduled trainings and team meetings
  • Assist in tracking engagement and student interactions as needed
  • Provide feedback to improve peer advising services and programming
  • Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled at QCC in good academic standing
  • Completion of at least 2 semesters at QCC
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Interest in supporting and mentoring fellow students
  • Commitment of at least two semesters
  • Availability to attend August training
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Participation in the SUCCESS Program
  • Effective communication and active listening
  • Organization and time management skills
  • Reliability, professionalism, and initiative
