Job summary

Ascension's Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center in Indianapolis is seeking a PRN pediatric preceptor to teach and supervise residents while delivering outpatient pediatric care. You will contribute to a diverse, medically underserved community and work within a collaborative Pediatric Resident Faculty Practice.

The role supports clinical quality, resident development, and patient access. You will document care in Athena with Sunrise access as needed, and join a team of physicians and residents

Qualifications

  • Licensed physician eligible to practice in Indiana.
  • MD/DO degree required and board certified in Pediatrics would be expected.
  • Advanced Life Support is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and supervise pediatric residents providing outpatient care.
  • Support clinical quality, continuity, and resident development.
  • Provide compassionate pediatric care to a diverse patient population, including underserved families.
  • Document outpatient care in Athena and have access to Sunrise for hospital records.

Education

Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required
Licensure via Indiana Medical Licensing Board
Advanced Life Support preferred

We Are Hiring
  • Location: Indianapolis, IN (northside)
  • Facility Name: Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center (PCC) located on Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis campus
  • Schedule: PRN; approximately 4–5 shifts per month; schedule flexibility required
  • Shift Options: Half-day shifts available: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–12:00 PM or 1:00 PM–5:00 PM
  • Compensation: $125/hour
  • Malpractice: Provided by Ascension

This job location is not currently located in a Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSAs) and/or Medically Underserved Areas/Populations (MUA/P) Shortage Designation Type.

What You Will Do

Help prepare the next generation of pediatricians while expanding access to care for a diverse and medically underserved community. This PRN pediatric preceptor position combines outpatient pediatric care with the opportunity to supervise and teach pediatric residents in the Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center.

  • The Team: Join a collaborative Pediatric Resident Faculty Practice that includes 5 regular-time physicians, and a dedicated cohort of 18 pediatric residents completing their ambulatory continuity experience.
  • Practice Setting: A fully outpatient teaching practice located with the PCC on the Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis campus.
  • Drive Clinical & Educational Excellence: Teach and supervise pediatric residents as they provide outpatient care, while supporting clinical quality, continuity, and resident development.
  • Enhance Patient Access & Equity: Provide compassionate, high-quality pediatric care to a diverse patient population, including children and families who are medically underserved, uninsured, or underinsured.
  • Electronic Medical Records: Document outpatient care in Athena, with access to Sunrise for relevant hospital records.
  • Employment Status: PRN employed physician position (W2).
  • Qualifications: Board Certified in Pediatrics

The Joshua Max Simon Primary Care Center is a multidisciplinary teaching practice located on the Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis campus. The PCC serves a culturally and linguistically diverse patient population, including many families who are medically underserved, uninsured, or underinsured. Physicians work alongside residents, faculty colleagues and an interdisciplinary care team while having access to the pediatric specialty resources of Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Indiana Medical Licensing Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Advanced Life Support preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
