Job summary

Ditmas-Children in Brooklyn, NY seeks a Pediatric Recreational Therapist Assistant to design and lead developmentally appropriate play, expressive arts, and special events for pediatric residents. You will create sensory-rich experiences for babies and children who are non-verbal, wheelchair-bound, or visually impaired, working one-on-one or in groups with empathy and creativity.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with children and babies.
• Experience with special needs is not required but a plus.
• Associate degree in Therapeutic Recreation or health-related field is not required but valued.
• Bachelor’s degree in child development or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates developmentally appropriate play opportunities for pediatric patients.
• Promotes participation in special events and holiday activities.
• Manages behavior and environment to ensure safety and infection control.
• Collaborates with interdisciplinary team in a professional manner.
• Maintains patient confidentiality and shares relevant information with the team.
• Builds therapeutic relationships with patients and families with professionalism.
• Ensures safety during activities, events, and transport.
• Follows department and facility policies including emergency procedures.
• Maintains equipment and workspace and requests supplies as needed.
• Participates in ongoing education to enhance skills.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
