Description

The Division of Pediatric Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a board-certified/board-eligible pediatric surgeon to join our growing academic pediatric surgical program at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments.

Stony Brook University Hospital is the region’s premier academic and tertiary care medical center, serving more than 1.5 million residents of Suffolk County and the surrounding region. Stony Brook Children’s Hospital opened its dedicated children’s hospital in 2019 and provides comprehensive pediatric and surgical specialty care in a modern, family-centered environment. The hospital is the only ACS-verified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Suffolk County and includes a 46-bed Level III NICU with approximately 1,000 admissions annually. More than 180 pediatric specialists representing 30 specialties provide multidisciplinary care across the full spectrum of pediatric disease.

The Division of Pediatric Surgery is committed to providing outstanding, compassionate, and evidence-based surgical care while advancing the academic missions of education, research, and innovation. The Division is supported by the Department of Surgery and Stony Brook Medicine, with opportunities for continued clinical program development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and regional growth.

Position Responsibilities

The successful candidate will join an established pediatric surgery faculty and participate in the full range of clinical, educational, and scholarly activities of the Division. Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing comprehensive operative and nonoperative care for infants, children, and adolescents with general and thoracic pediatric surgical conditions, including congenital anomalies, neonatal surgical disease, trauma, tumors, and other complex surgical conditions.
  • Participating in inpatient, outpatient, operative, consultative, and call responsibilities of the Division.
  • Working collaboratively with pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists, anesthesiologists, intensivists, neonatologists, nursing staff, advanced practice providers, and other members of the multidisciplinary pediatric care team.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary conferences, quality-improvement initiatives, and programmatic efforts designed to improve pediatric surgical outcomes and access to care.
  • Contributing to the continued growth and development of pediatric surgical services at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital and throughout the Stony Brook Medicine network.
  • Teaching and mentoring medical students, general surgery residents, and other trainees in the operating room, inpatient and outpatient settings, conferences, and classroom.

Academic Opportunity

Faculty appointment and academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and scholarly accomplishments.

Required Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.

  • Board certification or board eligibility in Pediatric Surgery.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of New York.
  • Eligibility for DEA registration.
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in pediatric surgical care, professionalism, teamwork, and education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong academic credentials and demonstrated interest in medical education and mentorship.
  • Experience in or demonstrated potential for clinical, translational, outcomes, health services, or educational research.
  • Interest in program development, quality improvement, and multidisciplinary pediatric care.
  • Additional clinical, research, educational, or leadership expertise that complements the existing strengths and future strategic priorities of the Division.
Special Notes

Tenure/Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for tenure and/or a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine ( School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure ).
