Job summary

UNC Medical Center's Children’s Short Stay Unit in Chapel Hill seeks a Clinical Nurse for 36 hours per week with a night schedule. You will provide competent nursing care within the nursing process and coordinate patient care in a fast-paced pediatric unit.

Requirements include graduation from an approved nursing program, NC RN licensure, BLS, and at least 1 year of nursing experience; PALS preferred. This state-position offers comprehensive UNC Health benefits.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
• If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

Responsibilities

• Education: participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self; assesses readiness to learn of patient/family/caregivers.
• Evaluation of Care: identifies expected patient outcomes; participates in interdisciplinary review of care.
• Implementation: provides competent care for patients with complex problems; adheres to policies; prioritizes patient needs; collaborates with resources for difficult cases.
• Leadership: supports unit goals, communicates effectively, promotes cost‑effective care, and fosters a safe environment.
• Patient Assessment: analyzes data to set care priorities; plans discharge; builds family partnerships.
• Planning: collaborates with families to update the plan; uses multidisciplinary resources; addresses cultural/ethnic issues.
• Research: reads journals; brings ideas for appraisal.
