Job summary

Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago seeks an entry-level laboratory assistant to conduct tests and collect data in a pediatric research setting at the Simpson Querrey Biomedical Research Center. You will set up and operate equipment, follow protocols, and assist investigators with experiments such as ELISA, PCR, and flow cytometry.

We require a high school diploma with basic science courses, plus at least one year of experience working with diverse teams.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent and some basic science courses is required.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience working with diverse groups of people.
• Working knowledge of computers, ability to troubleshoot, work independently, and function as a team member is essential.
• Excellent command of the English language and the ability to communicate effectively.
• Strong organizational skills including the ability to establish priorities, react promptly to requests, and keep the workplace clean and organized.

Responsibilities

• Follows predefined protocols and conducts standard experiments per Good Laboratory Practices.
• Sets up, operates and maintains standard lab equipment.
• Performs molecular biology, cellular biology, immunology and/or animal assays (e.g., ELISA, Western blot, viral plaque assay, flow cytometry, PCR).
• Acts as liaison between collaborative groups.
• Records test results and may maintain databases; assists investigators in experiments.
• Maintains records of facility use and assists in scheduling, purchasing, data entry, and data analysis.
• Performs job functions with a service-focused mindset and teamwork to provide high-quality care and service.
