Position Overview: Performs imaging / therapeutic services and associated patient care in support of the Radiology Department mission to provide diagnostic information for the subsequent treatment of patients at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
For West Virginia, Ohio, and Maryland locations:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within 6 months of hire.
- Radiologist Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
- West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area
For Pennsylvania locations:
- Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
- Must be registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography. If registry eligible, must pass boards within one year of hire.
- Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire
- State criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area
Core Duties and Responsibilities
The following are the general responsibilities of this role. Other duties may be assigned as needed:
- Rotate through all Diagnostic areas to develop technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
- Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment, request, and protocols, with supervision and periodic image evaluations.
- Produce high-quality images using appropriate equipment and techniques.
- Adjust exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to optimize image quality and minimize radiation exposure.
- Reduce radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff through shielding, collimation, and minimizing repeats.
- Maintain knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology to ensure optimal procedures and patient safety.
- Assess patient needs and provide comfort, hygiene, and support during procedures.
- Prepare contrast agents, pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays as per protocols.
- Educate patients about procedures and answer questions.
- Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team to deliver radiology services.
- Engage in problem-solving, crisis management, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical standards, policies, and regulations, including the ARRT Code of Ethics.
- Report equipment failures immediately.
- Complete required training and competencies.
- Position patients accurately according to protocols.
- Assist in coordinating daily workflow.
- Supervise and instruct radiology students within program policies.
- Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed thoroughly.
Specialty Accreditation and Physical Requirements
Complete annual education for specialty standards as required. Meet physical demands such as standing, lifting, and wearing protective gear, with accommodations as needed.
Work Environment
Exposure to minimal radiation, airborne particles, and operation of imaging equipment with safety measures in place.
Skills and Abilities
- Positive interaction with patients and staff.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple situations.
- Adaptability in positioning and equipment manipulation when routine methods are compromised.
