Job summary

University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville is seeking a Phlebotomist-Peds ID to support pediatric and adult outpatient clinics. You will collect blood, perform point-of-care tests, and assist with laboratory processing under supervision.

The role requires a phlebotomy course or equivalent experience and may prefer a Certified Medical Assistant with HIV/AIDS population exposure and pediatric blood-draw experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and completion of a phlebotomy course; or a high school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience.
• Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant and two years serving HIV/AIDS population; experience drawing blood from infants and children.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood from patients and instruct patients in specimen collection procedures.
• Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods.
• Perform basic laboratory tests (e.g., HIV rapid tests, finger-stick glucose, hemoglobin, urine pregnancy test, rapid strep, urinalysis).
• Prepare samples for lab delivery and review lab work before sending to labs.
• Maintain sterile blood-drawing trays and ensure first-time use of needles and syringes.
• Handle inventory and communicate equipment needs to staff.
