Job summary

Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a registered nurse for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). The RN will provide comprehensive postoperative care, manage airway concerns, monitor cardiopulmonary status, and collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and critical care teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Minimum education is BSN with a preference for PACU experience; DC license and CPR/PALS are required.

Qualifications

• BSN degree from an approved school of nursing (Preferred)
• 2 years PACU experience required or related clinical nursing experience in a comparable setting such as critical care or Peds ED (Required)
• Strong skills in airway management and knowledge of anesthetic agents

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage patient's airway postoperatively including airway management nuances after anesthesia and surgery
• Perform manual ventilation as needed and monitor cardiopulmonary function
• Assess and treat post-operative pain with timely interventions
• Maintain patient safety and adherence to evidence-based practice
• Demonstrate leadership in patient care, documentation, and communication with the healthcare team
