Job summary

Children's Wisconsin in Kenosha is seeking a full-time Ophthalmic Technician to perform diagnostic tests and provide patient instruction under the medical direction of a licensed ophthalmologist. Typical hours are 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with no weekends or holidays.

You will administer standard ophthalmic tests, perform vision field testing, and retinoscopy, assist with prisms and eye muscle assessments, and help with contact lens fitting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of basic eye anatomy and physiology.
• Experience with ophthalmic tests and procedures (two-year program or equivalent).
• Current CPR/BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Administers standard ophthalmic tests per physician's order and established procedures.
• Performs diagnostic tests including vision field tests.
• Performs retinoscopy.
• Provides evaluation of patients with eye muscle problems utilizing prisms.
• Contact lens fitting and dispensing.
• Explains procedures to patient and/or family and directs patient during treatment and therapy.
• Instructs patient and/or family in appropriate home care treatment.
• Prepares reports and completes charting; confers with physician regarding progress.
• Collaborates with coworkers, physicians, children, and families to ensure quality care.
