Job summary

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Farmington, CT is seeking an Ophthalmology Assistant to support physicians and care teams in pediatric eye care. You are the first clinician to see patients, perform eye function tests, and help direct the flow of the visit to ensure smooth, patient-centered care.

The role includes pre-visit testing, patient education, instrument sterilization, and coordinating communications in the EMR.

Qualifications

• No formal education required.
• Minimum 6 months Ophthalmic Assistant experience preferred at time of hire.
• Certification for Ophthalmic Assistant from an accredited organization preferred or to be acquired within 12 months.
• CPR (BLS) preferred at time of hire or within 1 month.

Responsibilities

• Obtain chief complaint, HPI, medical history and medications from patient and family.
• Test eye functions and look for abnormalities using basic penlight examination.
• Perform distance/near vision, depth perception, color vision, and peripheral vision tests.
• Dilate pupils and educate patient on eye drop side effects.
• Coordinate sterilization of instruments and maintain optical equipment.
