Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in occupational therapy from an accredited school.
  • Registration as an occupational therapist with the American Occupational Therapy Association.
  • Certified or eligible for Washington State certification as an educational staff associate endorsed for occupational therapy.
  • Related experience or a pediatric affiliation with a strong interest in pediatrics.
  • Additional education in occupational therapy theory and methods in current usage with disabled children desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IDEA and its application to compliant services for the disabled.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Ability to express thoughts concisely and effectively in written and spoken form.
  • Flexible in learning new concepts and adapting to assignments and conditions.
  • Enthusiastic and optimistic about teaching and student learning.
  • Assesses student needs and prescribes effective lessons using current instructional strategies.
  • Professional in interactions with students and adults, maintaining high expectations and appropriate attire.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and aligns with district program requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct evaluations and design treatment plans for disabled students as defined by WAC 392-172A.
  • Identify students needing occupational therapy through screening and evaluations.
  • Evaluate and treat individual children to develop performance skills.
  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to implement IEP-based treatments.
  • Relate therapy to educational growth and student's fullest potential.
  • Plan and implement therapy programs to meet educational goals.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate IEPs using data-driven decisions.
  • Provide consultation to family, health care agencies, and community organizations.
  • Consult with physicians regarding therapy programs.
  • Instruct and monitor students, families, and staff in OT procedures.
  • Maintain comprehensive written records and reports for each child.
  • Participate in ordering supplies and maintaining equipment.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and district program requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy
OT registration with American Occupational Therapy Association
Washington State certification as an educational staff associate (OT)
Pedatric affiliation or related pediatric experience
Additional education in OT theory/methods
IDEA knowledge and application
Ability to work with diverse families and staff
Clear written and verbal communication
Flexibility and adaptability
Enthusiasm and positive attitude
