Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a dedicated patient care assistant who will work under the supervision of a registered nurse in a pediatric ambulatory setting.

The role involves assisting with basic clinical tasks, patient transport, vital signs, and 1:1 observation in a highly collaborative environment. The position requires a High School Diploma or GED, completion of a nursing aide program and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED required plus completion of program leading to certification as Nursing Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse.
• Must be able to immobilize children safely when needed and move equipment/patients; respond quickly to patient care situations.
• Effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff is essential.
• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with direct patient care under the direction of an RN.
• Take vital signs and document data per department standards (EMR or paper).
• Perform ECGs and bladder scans as needed and assist with procedures.
• Support 1:1 observation and safety monitoring of patients.
• Assist with intra-hospital transport and patient comfort measures.
• Stock, stockroom maintenance and clerical tasks as directed.
