Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our laboratory team. The role focuses on performing and evaluating tests, maintaining instruments, and ensuring timely results for critical departments such as ED, ICU, and OR.

You will contribute to QA/QC, staff training, and adherence to CAP standards in a high-acuity setting. The ideal candidate has MT/MLS or equivalent certification with a Bachelor’s degree in lab science and a commitment to patient-centered care.

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include alternate site assignment.

Responsibilities

• Performs, evaluates, and monitors laboratory tests as authorized within established protocols, selecting and performing additional procedures when indicated.
• Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness; reports results per policy.
• Calibrates, maintains and repairs instruments; identifies malfunctions and applies corrective actions.
• Implements quality control and quality assurance activities and addresses issues.
• Collects specimens from newborn, pediatric, and adult patients per protocol.
• Provides training and guidance to laboratory staff and students as assigned.
• Supports accreditation standards and CAP/regulatory requirements in an acute setting.
• Performs proficiency testing and quality improvement activities.
• Performs specialty testing across transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Supports critical care departments with timely, accurate results during high-acuity events.
• Supports patient age-appropriate care and life-span development in line with department standards.
