Job summary

University of New Mexico in Albuquerque is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to provide direct, professional care for children and adolescents with concerns for child maltreatment, including sexual abuse and sexual assault. You will support physicians during examinations, manage scheduling, and coordinate care for patients in the Pediatrics Child Abuse Services team.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Medical Assistant certificate or enrollment in a medical, nursing or pharmacy program.
• At least 1 year of experience in a medical field.
• Completed degrees above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience.

Responsibilities

• The Medical Assistant prepares necessary equipment and assists the physician during examinations and treatments.
• Performs medical assistant evaluations of new and existing patients.
• Administers prescribed medications.
• Applies sterile dressings.
• Performs phlebotomy.
• Performs care coordination activities including patient scheduling and follow-up.
• Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
