Job summary

Children’s Nebraska is seeking a part-time laboratory technician to handle initial specimen processing and quality control in Microbiology and Chemistry. The role requires following precise directions, managing specimens, and supporting staff in training and orientation.

The position includes evening hours 12:30pm–9:00pm with weekend and holiday rotation, and opportunities for professional development within a pediatric lab setting.

Qualifications

• Requires HS diploma or GED and ability to read and write.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Previous laboratory or scientific coursework preferred.
• On-the-job training typically lasts 3–6 months.

Responsibilities

• Answers telephone, transfers calls, locates test results.
• Uses HIS and LIS to receive specimens and look up results.
• Retrieves specimens and delivers to the appropriate section.
• Processes and retains patient specimens in the Chemistry department.
• Prepares slides and inoculates media for Microbiology specimens.
• Enters preliminary referral laboratory results into LIS.
• Maintains inventory and supports staff training and orientation.
