Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Division ofPediatric Infectious Diseases is to provide superior subspecialtyclinical care to the children of Central Virginia, to provideoutstanding training in infectious diseases for medical students,residents and subspecialty fellows, and to generate new knowledgethrough both clinical and basic science research projects.
Chief Purpose of Position:
The Division of InfectiousDiseases provides clinical care to patients with all types ofinfectious processes in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.Services will include:
- Inpatient and outpatient consultation for children withsuspected infections, or infections that are complex, chronic orrecurrent, or particularly difficult to treat;
- Phone consultation for physicians and other pediatric medicalprofessionals who need assistance and advice with infectiousdisease issues pertinent to their patients;
- Consultation for review of antibiotic, antiviral or antifungaltherapies, including assistance in drug monitoring for toxicitiesand side effects for both inpatient and home health services;
- Consultation on epidemiologic issues in the health care settingas well as in the community;
- Services in specialized outpatient clinics.
- As a component of the program, the position will play a keyrole in developing the non-HIV Pediatric Infectious Diseasesoutpatient program to ensure timely and appropriate access topatients across multiple modalities including in-person visits,telehealth and e-consult.
Responsibilities:
Teaching
- Faculty member will have teaching responsibilities. Facultymember will provide teaching and mentorship to medical students,Residents, Chief Residents, and Fellows when applicable.
Research
- Faculty member will have working knowledge in research methodsand be able to participate in clinical, translational, and outcomesresearch.
Service
- Faculty member will serve on departmental or School of Medicinelevel committees when appropriate, and engage in professionalactivities through journal review, conference presentations,etc.
Clinical
- Inpatient and outpatient consultation for children withsuspected infections, or infections that are complex, chronic orrecurrent, or particularly difficult to diagnose or treat;
- Phone, telehealth and e-consult consultation for physicians andother pediatric medical professionals who need assistance andadvice with infections disease issues pertinent to theirpatients;
- Consultation for review of antibiotic, antiviral, or antifungaltherapies, including assistance in drug monitoring for toxicitiesand side effects for both inpatient and home health services;
- Consultation on epidemiologic issues in the health care settingas well as in the community.
Other
- Faculty member will take on administrative duties associatedwith this role.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric InfectiousDiseases
- Experience with clinical care of patients
- Experience in an academic medical center
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member.
